- 1 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 medium tomatoes, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup water or broth
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Mix cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Add vegetable oil to the skillet and sauté the onion for 5 to 6 minutes until softened. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the ground beef or lamb and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in tomato paste and diced tomatoes, then add the spice mixture.
- Pour in the water or broth and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add frozen peas during the final 5 minutes of cooking.
- Stir in chopped cilantro before serving and enjoy hot with rice or naan.
Notes
- For extra richness, stir in a spoonful of yogurt before serving.
- Simmer uncovered for a thicker curry sauce.
- Leftovers taste even better the next day.
- Add green chilies if you prefer extra heat.
