Description

A rich and comforting keema curry made with minced meat, peas, tomatoes, and warming spices, simmered into a flavorful hearty dish that pairs perfectly with rice or naan.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water or broth
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
  2. Mix cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Add vegetable oil to the skillet and sauté the onion for 5 to 6 minutes until softened. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add the ground beef or lamb and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  5. Stir in tomato paste and diced tomatoes, then add the spice mixture.
  6. Pour in the water or broth and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add frozen peas during the final 5 minutes of cooking.
  8. Stir in chopped cilantro before serving and enjoy hot with rice or naan.

Notes

  • For extra richness, stir in a spoonful of yogurt before serving.
  • Simmer uncovered for a thicker curry sauce.
  • Leftovers taste even better the next day.
  • Add green chilies if you prefer extra heat.
