- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Cook spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
- Add flour and whisk constantly for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Slowly pour in milk while whisking to prevent lumps.
- Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens, about 3–5 minutes.
- Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Stir to combine.
- Add Parmesan cheese (if using) and stir until melted and smooth.
- Add cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- Serve warm, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use whole milk for a richer sauce, or skim milk for a lighter version.
- Add cooked chicken, mushrooms, or broccoli for a heartier meal.
- Double the sauce if you prefer an extra creamy pasta.
