Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Stir in the flour and cook for another minute to form a roux.
- Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream, ensuring there are no lumps.
- Continue to cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and oregano (if using). Stir until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before spreading over your pizza dough.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- The sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- If the sauce thickens too much, whisk in a splash of milk before using.
