- 6 slices thick white or sourdough bread, cubed
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed tomato soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Toss cubed bread with melted butter and half of the shredded cheese in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together tomato soup, milk, garlic powder, dried basil, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Add half of the bread and cheese mixture into the baking dish. Pour half of the soup mixture on top. Repeat with the remaining bread and soup mixture.
- Sprinkle the rest of the cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
