Description

The classic chocolate chip cookie recipe from Nestlé Toll House, known for its buttery, soft center and chewy edges, with pockets of rich, melted chocolate.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-ounce package) Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixer bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually beat in the flour mixture.
  6. Stir in the chocolate morsels and chopped nuts (if using).
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a softer cookie, you can slightly underbake them.
  • If you omit the nuts, you can add 1 to 2 tablespoons of extra all-purpose flour to the dough.
  • For high altitude baking (3,500 to 6,000 feet), increase the flour to 2 1/2 cups, add 2 teaspoons of water with the flour, and reduce both granulated sugar and brown sugar to 2/3 cup each.
  • You can also make this recipe as pan cookies or ‘slice and bake’ refrigerated cookies.
