- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups (12-ounce package) Nestlé Toll House Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixer bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Gradually beat in the flour mixture.
- Stir in the chocolate morsels and chopped nuts (if using).
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
- For a softer cookie, you can slightly underbake them.
- If you omit the nuts, you can add 1 to 2 tablespoons of extra all-purpose flour to the dough.
- For high altitude baking (3,500 to 6,000 feet), increase the flour to 2 1/2 cups, add 2 teaspoons of water with the flour, and reduce both granulated sugar and brown sugar to 2/3 cup each.
- You can also make this recipe as pan cookies or ‘slice and bake’ refrigerated cookies.
