Description

Toasted Sesame Dip is a creamy, crunchy, and addictive appetizer made with a blend of Greek yogurt or sour cream, nutty toasted sesame seeds, and savory seasonings. It’s the perfect balance of tangy, rich, and toasty flavors – ideal for dipping vegetables, crackers, or flatbreads.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (or sour cream for a richer version)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds (white, black, or a mix)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, finely grated or minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar or honey (optional, to balance acidity)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional garnish: chopped scallions, chili flakes, or more toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast sesame seeds until golden and fragrant, stirring often, about 2–3 minutes. Let cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, mayonnaise (if using), sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar or lemon juice, garlic, and sugar or honey. Stir until smooth.
  3. Stir in most of the toasted sesame seeds, reserving a small amount for garnish.
  4. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  5. Transfer to a serving bowl, top with remaining sesame seeds and optional garnishes.
  6. Serve chilled or at room temperature with veggies, crackers, or pita chips.

Notes

  • Use labneh for an even thicker, tangier dip.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne or a drizzle of chili crisp for a spicy kick.
  • Can be made a day ahead – flavors deepen after chilling.
