Description
Toasted Sesame Dip is a creamy, crunchy, and addictive appetizer made with a blend of Greek yogurt or sour cream, nutty toasted sesame seeds, and savory seasonings. It’s the perfect balance of tangy, rich, and toasty flavors – ideal for dipping vegetables, crackers, or flatbreads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Greek yogurt (or sour cream for a richer version)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional, for extra creaminess)
- 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds (white, black, or a mix)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, finely grated or minced
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar or honey (optional, to balance acidity)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional garnish: chopped scallions, chili flakes, or more toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast sesame seeds until golden and fragrant, stirring often, about 2–3 minutes. Let cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, mayonnaise (if using), sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar or lemon juice, garlic, and sugar or honey. Stir until smooth.
- Stir in most of the toasted sesame seeds, reserving a small amount for garnish.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Transfer to a serving bowl, top with remaining sesame seeds and optional garnishes.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature with veggies, crackers, or pita chips.
Notes
- Use labneh for an even thicker, tangier dip.
- Add a pinch of cayenne or a drizzle of chili crisp for a spicy kick.
- Can be made a day ahead – flavors deepen after chilling.
