Description

The School Pizza Recipe brings back nostalgic cafeteria memories with its thick, soft crust, rich seasoned meat sauce, and gooey melted cheese. This throwback favorite is easy to make at home and perfect for feeding a crowd or reliving your childhood lunch tray moments.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 cups pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until dough forms, then knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a rimmed baking sheet or pizza pan.
  4. While dough rises, brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain fat, then stir in onion powder, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  5. Punch down dough and press it evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Spread pizza sauce over the dough, then top with seasoned beef and sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let cool slightly before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Use store-bought dough to save time if needed.
  • Swap ground beef with sausage or make it meatless with veggies.
  • Perfect for making ahead and reheating for school lunch nostalgia.
