- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves, packed
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium carrot, grated
- 12 large butter lettuce leaves
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium high heat.
- In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Stir well.
- Add vegetable oil to the hot skillet and swirl to coat.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Stir in red bell pepper and grated carrot.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in fresh Thai basil leaves and cook just until wilted.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Spoon the beef mixture into butter lettuce leaves and serve immediately.
Notes
- Add chopped chilies for extra heat if desired.
- Keep lettuce chilled until serving for maximum crispness.
- The filling can be made up to 2 days in advance and reheated gently before serving.
