Description

Fresh, savory ground beef cooked with garlic and Thai basil, wrapped in crisp butter lettuce leaves for a light yet flavorful meal that comes together in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves, packed
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 12 large butter lettuce leaves
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice. Stir well.
  3. Add vegetable oil to the hot skillet and swirl to coat.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Stir in red bell pepper and grated carrot.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in fresh Thai basil leaves and cook just until wilted.
  6. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture into butter lettuce leaves and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add chopped chilies for extra heat if desired.
  • Keep lettuce chilled until serving for maximum crispness.
  • The filling can be made up to 2 days in advance and reheated gently before serving.
