Description
Special Italian Cream Puffs filled with rich, creamy custard are a classic indulgence. Light and crispy choux pastry shells are filled with smooth vanilla custard and dusted with powdered sugar — perfect for a sophisticated dessert!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil.
- Add flour all at once and stirring vigorously until mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from heat and let mixture cool slightly. Add in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Drop batter by spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffs are firm and golden.
- Meanwhile, prepare the custard by heating milk in a saucepan. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and yolks in a bowl. Gradually add warm milk to yolks, then return mixture to saucepan and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.
- Fill cooled puffs with custard and dust with powdered sugar.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, fold in a small amount of whipped cream into cooled custard.
- Chocolate ganache or strawberries can be added on top for a festive twist.
- Best chilled for at least 1 hour before serving.
