Description

Special Italian Cream Puffs filled with rich, creamy custard are a classic indulgence. Light and crispy choux pastry shells are filled with smooth vanilla custard and dusted with powdered sugar — perfect for a sophisticated dessert!


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  3. Add flour all at once and stirring vigorously until mixture pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  4. Remove from heat and let mixture cool slightly. Add in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Drop batter by spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes until puffs are firm and golden.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare the custard by heating milk in a saucepan. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and yolks in a bowl. Gradually add warm milk to yolks, then return mixture to saucepan and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract.
  7. Fill cooled puffs with custard and dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, fold in a small amount of whipped cream into cooled custard.
  • Chocolate ganache or strawberries can be added on top for a festive twist.
  • Best chilled for at least 1 hour before serving.
