Description

Soft, buttery heart-shaped sugar cookies topped with glossy pink and red icing and finished with sparkling sanding sugar, perfect for celebrations and sweet moments.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
  • Pink food coloring, a few drops
  • Red food coloring, a few drops
  • 1/2 cup sparkling sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, then beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  6. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are set.
  7. Allow cookies to cool completely on a rack.
  8. Mix powdered sugar with milk to create icing, divide and tint with pink and red food coloring.
  9. Spread icing over cooled cookies and sprinkle with sanding sugar.
  10. Let the icing set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Chill the dough briefly if it becomes too soft to handle.
  • Allow cookies to cool fully before icing to prevent melting.
  • Decorate with sanding sugar while icing is still wet for best sparkle.
