- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- Pink food coloring, a few drops
- Red food coloring, a few drops
- 1/2 cup sparkling sanding sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, then beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
- Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are set.
- Allow cookies to cool completely on a rack.
- Mix powdered sugar with milk to create icing, divide and tint with pink and red food coloring.
- Spread icing over cooled cookies and sprinkle with sanding sugar.
- Let the icing set before serving or storing.
Notes
- Chill the dough briefly if it becomes too soft to handle.
- Allow cookies to cool fully before icing to prevent melting.
- Decorate with sanding sugar while icing is still wet for best sparkle.
