Description

A cozy, comforting classic, Shepherd’s Pie layers creamy mashed potatoes over a rich, savory meat and vegetable filling. Perfect for chilly nights and family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion, chopped
  • 2 Carrots, diced
  • 1 cup Frozen Peas
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Thyme
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • 4 cups Mashed Potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/3 cup Milk
  • 1/2 cup Grated Cheddar Cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté onions, garlic, and carrots for 5 minutes until softened. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and beef broth. Simmer for 10 minutes until thickened. Stir in peas and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish and spread the meat mixture evenly into the bottom.
  5. Spoon mashed potatoes over the meat filling and spread evenly. Create textured lines with a fork. Top with cheddar cheese if desired.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for best mashed texture.
  • Let filling cool slightly before topping to prevent sinking.
  • Broil briefly for a crispier golden crust.
