Description
This savory meat and cheese pie is the ultimate comfort food, combining seasoned ground beef and gooey cheddar cheese in a golden, flaky puff pastry crust. Perfect for family dinners or meal prep, it’s rich, hearty, and irresistibly satisfying.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 puff pastry sheets
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, warm olive oil. Add chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until soft.
- Add ground beef, salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
- Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Roll out one puff pastry sheet and press into the pie dish.
- Spoon the meat mixture evenly into the crust.
- Top with the second puff pastry sheet. Seal edges and cut small slits in the top.
- Brush the top with a mixture of beaten egg and milk.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use cold puff pastry for best texture.
- Let the pie rest before cutting to keep filling intact.
- Try adding spinach or mushrooms to the filling for variation.
- Leftovers reheat well in the oven.
