Description

A rich and creamy layered dessert made with soft rasmalai pieces, saffron cardamom custard, whipped cream, and a generous sprinkle of pistachios and almonds. It is elegant, comforting, and perfect for festive gatherings or special family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 rasmalai pieces, cut into halves
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons custard powder
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 to 10 saffron strands
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 3 tablespoons chopped pistachios
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Chill a trifle dish or serving bowl in the refrigerator while you prepare the dessert.
  2. In a saucepan, whisk together the whole milk, custard powder, sugar, and sweetened condensed milk until smooth.
  3. Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously, until it thickens into a smooth custard.
  4. Stir in the saffron strands and cardamom powder, then let the custard cool slightly.
  5. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  6. Arrange a layer of rasmalai pieces in the bottom of the chilled trifle dish.
  7. Spoon a layer of custard over the rasmalai pieces.
  8. Add a layer of whipped cream on top of the custard.
  9. Repeat the layers of rasmalai, custard, and whipped cream until all the components are used.
  10. Finish with chopped pistachios, sliced almonds, and a few extra saffron strands on top.
  11. Chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Let the custard cool slightly before layering so it does not melt the whipped cream.
  • For deeper flavor, soak the saffron strands in 1 tablespoon of warm milk before adding them to the custard.
  • You can assemble the dessert a day ahead and keep it refrigerated until serving.
  • Use a clear glass bowl or individual dessert glasses for a more beautiful presentation.
