Description

Potato Tuna Nuggets are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, combining mashed potatoes and canned tuna for a quick, protein-packed snack or appetizer. Great for kids and adults alike!


Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (about 2 medium potatoes, cooked and mashed)
  • 1 can (5 oz) tuna in water, drained
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (plus more for coating)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika or dried herbs (optional)
  • 23 tbsp oil (for shallow frying)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together mashed potatoes, drained tuna, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and optional paprika or herbs.
  2. Form the mixture into small nugget shapes or patties.
  3. Coat each nugget lightly in extra breadcrumbs for a crispy exterior.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the nuggets in batches for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with dipping sauce like ketchup, mayo, or garlic yogurt.

Notes

  • You can bake the nuggets at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes for a lighter version.
  • Add chopped parsley or green onions for extra flavor and color.
  • These freeze well — form the nuggets and freeze before frying for a quick meal later.
