Description
Potato Tuna Nuggets are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, combining mashed potatoes and canned tuna for a quick, protein-packed snack or appetizer. Great for kids and adults alike!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (about 2 medium potatoes, cooked and mashed)
- 1 can (5 oz) tuna in water, drained
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (plus more for coating)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika or dried herbs (optional)
- 2–3 tbsp oil (for shallow frying)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together mashed potatoes, drained tuna, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and optional paprika or herbs.
- Form the mixture into small nugget shapes or patties.
- Coat each nugget lightly in extra breadcrumbs for a crispy exterior.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the nuggets in batches for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and heated through.
- Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with dipping sauce like ketchup, mayo, or garlic yogurt.
Notes
- You can bake the nuggets at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes for a lighter version.
- Add chopped parsley or green onions for extra flavor and color.
- These freeze well — form the nuggets and freeze before frying for a quick meal later.
