Description

Philly Steakhouse Grilled Cheese is a bold and savory twist on a classic. Juicy steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone cheese are sandwiched between buttery toasted bread—bringing the rich flavors of a Philly cheesesteak into a crispy, cheesy grilled masterpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of hearty bread (like sourdough or Texas toast)
  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye steak or deli roast beef
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder or steak seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté sliced onions and peppers until soft and lightly caramelized, about 6–8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Add the sliced steak to the skillet and cook until browned and heated through. Season with garlic powder or steak seasoning if desired. Remove from heat.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice.
  4. Place 4 slices, butter-side down, on a skillet or griddle. Layer each with 1 slice of provolone, the steak and pepper mixture, another slice of provolone, and a top slice of bread (butter-side up).
  5. Cook over medium heat until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, about 3–4 minutes per side.
  6. Slice and serve hot with chips, fries, or a pickle on the side.

Notes

  • Use pre-cooked or leftover steak for quicker prep.
  • Swap provolone with mozzarella or white American for a different flavor profile.
  • Serve with au jus or spicy mayo for dipping.
