Description
Philly Steakhouse Grilled Cheese is a bold and savory twist on a classic. Juicy steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone cheese are sandwiched between buttery toasted bread—bringing the rich flavors of a Philly cheesesteak into a crispy, cheesy grilled masterpiece.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of hearty bread (like sourdough or Texas toast)
- 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye steak or deli roast beef
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 tbsp butter, softened
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: garlic powder or steak seasoning
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté sliced onions and peppers until soft and lightly caramelized, about 6–8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the sliced steak to the skillet and cook until browned and heated through. Season with garlic powder or steak seasoning if desired. Remove from heat.
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Place 4 slices, butter-side down, on a skillet or griddle. Layer each with 1 slice of provolone, the steak and pepper mixture, another slice of provolone, and a top slice of bread (butter-side up).
- Cook over medium heat until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Slice and serve hot with chips, fries, or a pickle on the side.
Notes
- Use pre-cooked or leftover steak for quicker prep.
- Swap provolone with mozzarella or white American for a different flavor profile.
- Serve with au jus or spicy mayo for dipping.
