Description

A comforting one-skillet dinner made with tender steak, creamy rice, and a sweet smoky honey BBQ sauce, perfect for busy weeknights with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sirloin or flank steak, sliced into strips
  • 1 cup uncooked long grain rice
  • 1 cup honey BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 whole garlic cloves
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat until evenly warm.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the honey BBQ sauce and honey until smooth, then set aside.
  3. Add olive oil and butter to the skillet and let the butter melt gently.
  4. Add the steak strips and sear until browned on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the onion and garlic cloves and cook until fragrant and softened.
  6. Stir in the uncooked rice and toast lightly for about one minute.
  7. Pour in the beef broth, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika, then bring to a gentle simmer.
  8. Cook until the rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  9. Stir in the heavy cream and the honey BBQ mixture until creamy.
  10. Return the steak to the skillet and simmer gently until everything is well coated and heated through.
  11. Remove from heat and let rest briefly before serving.

Notes

  • Slice the steak against the grain for the most tender texture.
  • Keep the heat low after adding the cream to prevent curdling.
  • Add a splash of beef broth when reheating leftovers to restore creaminess.
