Description

A timeless and refreshing drink, this old fashioned lemonade is made with fresh lemons, sugar, and water — just the way grandma used to make it.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 46 lemons)
  • 3/4 to 1 cup granulated sugar (to taste)
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Lemon slices and fresh mint, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is fully dissolved to make a simple syrup. Let cool.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice and the simple syrup. Stir well.
  3. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as desired.
  4. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill.
  5. Serve over ice with lemon slices and mint, if using.

Notes

  • Roll lemons on the counter before juicing to get the most juice.
  • Add sparkling water instead of still water for a fizzy version.
  • Use honey or maple syrup instead of sugar for a natural sweetener option.
