Description

Thick, chewy, bakery-style New York cookies made from one versatile base dough and easily customized into four irresistible flavors: classic chocolate chip, double chocolate, funfetti, and cookies & cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Flavor Mix-ins (choose per batch of dough divided in quarters):
  • 1) Chocolate Chip: 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2) Double Chocolate: 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder + 1 cup white or milk chocolate chips
  • 3) Funfetti: 1/2 cup white chocolate chips + 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles
  • 4) Cookies & Cream: 1/2 cup chopped chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos) + 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the cold cubed butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
  5. Divide dough into four equal parts for the different flavors.
  6. Mix in the specific ingredients for each flavor variation into its portion of dough.
  7. Scoop large dough balls (about 3–4 tablespoons each) and place on prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each.
  8. Chill the dough balls for 20–30 minutes (optional but helps with texture).
  9. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until edges are golden but centers are still soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use cold butter to help maintain the thick, bakery-style texture.
  • Cookies will continue to set as they cool—don’t overbake.
  • Freeze extra dough balls and bake straight from frozen, adding 1–2 minutes to the bake time.
