Description
Mini Beef Wellingtons are bite-sized versions of the classic beef Wellington, with tender beef wrapped in a flavorful mushroom duxelles and puff pastry. These make for an elegant appetizer or a perfect party dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb beef tenderloin (cut into 4–6 small pieces)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small shallot, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 sheet puff pastry (cut into squares large enough to wrap the beef)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Sear the beef tenderloin pieces for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Brush with Dijon mustard.
- In the same pan, melt butter and add the shallot, garlic, and mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms release their moisture and it evaporates, about 5-7 minutes. Add thyme, salt, and pepper, and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into squares large enough to wrap around the beef pieces.
- Place a spoonful of the mushroom mixture in the center of each puff pastry square, then place the beef on top. Fold the pastry around the beef and secure the edges.
- Place the wrapped beef on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and crispy and the beef reaches your desired level of doneness.
- Serve immediately and enjoy these delightful mini Beef Wellingtons!
Notes
- For a more decadent flavor, you can add a layer of pâté or foie gras to the mushroom mixture.
- Be sure to allow the beef to cool slightly after searing to prevent the puff pastry from getting soggy.
- Mini Beef Wellingtons can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking. Simply bake them directly from the fridge, adding an extra 5 minutes to the baking time.
