Description

Juicy homemade meatballs simmered in rich marinara sauce and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. This comforting dish is packed with savory flavor, tender texture, and cheesy goodness in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450 grams) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup (60 grams) breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup (25 grams) grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup (100 grams) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups (480 milliliters) marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, gently mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated parmesan cheese, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper until just combined.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches wide, and place them into the hot skillet.
  5. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 8 minutes. Pour marinara sauce over them and let simmer for 10 minutes. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top and transfer to the oven for 8 to 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Remove from oven and sprinkle additional parsley if desired.
  7. Serve hot with extra sauce spooned over the top.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Meatballs can be frozen for up to 2 months.
