Description

Soft, fluffy maple donut bars baked until golden and topped with a smooth maple glaze. They have that cozy bakery-style flavor with a tender crumb and a sweet maple finish that makes them perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an anytime treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a rectangular baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the whole milk, melted butter, 1/4 cup maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the center is set.
  7. Let the bars cool slightly in the pan.
  8. To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, and 2 tablespoons milk until smooth.
  9. Spread the glaze over the slightly cooled bars.
  10. Let the glaze set, then slice into bars and serve.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter or the bars may turn dense instead of soft and fluffy.
  • Let the bars cool slightly before glazing so the glaze stays on top instead of melting away.
  • For a stronger maple flavor, add a small splash of maple extract to the glaze.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
