- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 cups mashed potatoes (prepared)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 2 tablespoons sour cream (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 or similar-sized baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Press meat mixture into the bottom of the baking dish in an even layer.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the meat is mostly cooked through. Carefully drain any grease.
- Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the cooked meat layer.
- Top with shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon.
- Return to oven and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Sprinkle with chopped green onions and serve with sour cream if desired.
Notes
- Use leftover mashed potatoes to save time.
- Add sautéed onions or mushrooms to the meat layer for extra depth.
- This dish can be made ahead and reheated in the oven.
