Description

A delicious and elegant Kunafa Cream Dessert served in individual jars, combining crispy shredded phyllo pastry, sweet cream filling, and a drizzle of sugar syrup for the perfect Middle Eastern treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups kunafa (kataifi) dough, shredded
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sugar syrup (ater), cooled
  • Chopped pistachios for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the shredded kunafa dough in a large bowl and pour the melted butter over it, tossing to coat evenly.
  2. Spread the buttered kunafa dough on a baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and crispy. Let cool.
  3. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let cool slightly.
  4. To assemble, add a layer of crispy kunafa to the bottom of each jar, followed by a layer of the cream mixture. Repeat the layers until the jar is filled.
  5. Drizzle sugar syrup over the top layer and garnish with chopped pistachios.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

  • Prepare the sugar syrup by boiling 1/2 cup sugar with 1/4 cup water and a squeeze of lemon juice for 5 minutes.
  • These desserts can be prepared a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Top with rose petals for a more festive presentation.
