Description

Golden, crispy strips of beef tossed in a sticky, sweet, and spicy honey chilli glaze, garnished with sesame seeds and scallions. This dish brings bold takeout-style flavor right to your home kitchen.


Ingredients

  • 500g beef (sirloin or flank), thinly sliced
  • 6 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch)
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 fresh red chilli, finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2 spring onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok to 180°C (350°F). Line a plate with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, mix beef slices with the egg. Add cornflour and coat thoroughly.
  3. Test the oil with a small piece of beef. If it sizzles, it’s ready.
  4. Fry the beef in batches until golden and crispy, about 4–5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. Double fry each batch for 1–2 minutes for extra crunch.
  6. In a separate pan, heat a bit of oil. Sauté garlic and red chilli briefly, then add soy sauce, honey, ketchup, and vinegar. Stir until bubbling.
  7. Add the fried beef and toss to coat evenly.
  8. Garnish with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • Double frying is key for that restaurant-level crunch.
  • Toss in sauce just before serving to keep the beef crispy.
  • Adjust chilli to control heat level.
  • For extra presentation points, sprinkle with extra sesame seeds before serving.
