Ingredients
Scale
- 500g beef (sirloin or flank), thinly sliced
- 6 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch)
- 1 large egg
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 fresh red chilli, finely sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 2 spring onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok to 180°C (350°F). Line a plate with paper towels.
- In a bowl, mix beef slices with the egg. Add cornflour and coat thoroughly.
- Test the oil with a small piece of beef. If it sizzles, it’s ready.
- Fry the beef in batches until golden and crispy, about 4–5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Double fry each batch for 1–2 minutes for extra crunch.
- In a separate pan, heat a bit of oil. Sauté garlic and red chilli briefly, then add soy sauce, honey, ketchup, and vinegar. Stir until bubbling.
- Add the fried beef and toss to coat evenly.
- Garnish with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot.
Notes
- Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
- Double frying is key for that restaurant-level crunch.
- Toss in sauce just before serving to keep the beef crispy.
- Adjust chilli to control heat level.
- For extra presentation points, sprinkle with extra sesame seeds before serving.
