Description

Homestyle Apple Pie Bread is a delightful, moist loaf filled with spiced apples and topped with a sweet, crumbly streusel. It’s the perfect combination of apple pie flavors in a convenient bread form, ideal for breakfast or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the bread:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (about 2 medium apples)
  • For the streusel topping:
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with sour cream, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples gently.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. To make the streusel topping, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cold butter in a small bowl. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture forms small crumbs.
  8. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the batter in the loaf pan.
  9. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  10. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • This bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
  • For an extra touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk once cooled.
  • If you prefer a more intense apple flavor, you can use a mix of tart apples like Granny Smith and sweet apples like Fuji.
