Ingredients
Scale
- For the bread:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (about 2 medium apples)
- For the streusel topping:
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with sour cream, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Stir until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped apples gently.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- To make the streusel topping, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cold butter in a small bowl. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture forms small crumbs.
- Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the batter in the loaf pan.
- Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- This bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
- For an extra touch, drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk once cooled.
- If you prefer a more intense apple flavor, you can use a mix of tart apples like Granny Smith and sweet apples like Fuji.
