A cozy, aromatic tea brewed with fresh apples, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and citrus, lightly sweetened and optionally finished with black tea for depth.
Ingredients
- Fresh apples: 4 medium, cored and thinly sliced
- Cinnamon sticks: 2 sticks
- Whole cloves: 6 to 8
- Fresh ginger: 1 inch piece, thinly sliced
- Orange peel: from 1 orange, in wide strips
- Water: 6 cups
- Honey or brown sugar: 2 to 3 tablespoons, optional to taste
- Black tea bags: 2, optional for a bolder flavor
Instructions
- Place a large pot on the stove to preheat over medium heat.
- Add apples, cinnamon sticks, cloves, ginger, orange peel, and water to the pot and stir to combine.
- Ensure spices are submerged and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat to low and maintain a light simmer.
- Simmer for 30 minutes until the liquid is fragrant and the apples have released their flavor.
- Remove from heat, stir in honey or brown sugar if using, then add black tea bags and steep 3 to 5 minutes; discard tea bags.
- Strain into mugs and serve warm, garnishing with an apple slice or cinnamon stick if desired.
Notes
- Note: For a brighter finish add 1 to 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice before serving.
- Chill leftovers for iced tea or freeze in cubes for quick mugs later.
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
