Description

A cozy, aromatic tea brewed with fresh apples, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and citrus, lightly sweetened and optionally finished with black tea for depth.

Ingredients

  • Fresh apples: 4 medium, cored and thinly sliced
  • Cinnamon sticks: 2 sticks
  • Whole cloves: 6 to 8
  • Fresh ginger: 1 inch piece, thinly sliced
  • Orange peel: from 1 orange, in wide strips
  • Water: 6 cups
  • Honey or brown sugar: 2 to 3 tablespoons, optional to taste
  • Black tea bags: 2, optional for a bolder flavor

Instructions

  1. Place a large pot on the stove to preheat over medium heat.
  2. Add apples, cinnamon sticks, cloves, ginger, orange peel, and water to the pot and stir to combine.
  3. Ensure spices are submerged and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low and maintain a light simmer.
  5. Simmer for 30 minutes until the liquid is fragrant and the apples have released their flavor.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in honey or brown sugar if using, then add black tea bags and steep 3 to 5 minutes; discard tea bags.
  7. Strain into mugs and serve warm, garnishing with an apple slice or cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

  • Note: For a brighter finish add 1 to 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice before serving.
  • Chill leftovers for iced tea or freeze in cubes for quick mugs later.
  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
