Description

A creamy, crunchy, and comforting classic, this green bean casserole brings together tender green beans, a rich mushroom sauce, and golden fried onions in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 2 (10.5-ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups French fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, pepper, and garlic powder until smooth.
  3. Add green beans to the casserole dish and pour the soup mixture over them. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Mix in 2/3 of the fried onions and spread everything evenly in the dish.
  5. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, until bubbly.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining fried onions on top and return to oven for another 5 minutes until golden.
  7. Let cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

  • Blanch fresh green beans before using to retain vibrant color and texture.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms for extra depth.
  • Top with cheese for a rich twist.
  • Use plant-based alternatives for a vegan version.
