Description

This homemade gravy is rich and savory, made from pan drippings or broth with a smooth, velvety texture. Perfect for pairing with mashed potatoes, roast meats, or other comfort foods.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons butter or drippings
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups broth (chicken, beef, or vegetable)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter or heat drippings over medium heat.
  2. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns golden brown.
  3. Slowly pour in the broth while continuously whisking to prevent lumps from forming.
  4. Continue to cook for 3–5 minutes, whisking frequently, until the gravy thickens.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings like garlic or onion powder.
  6. Serve immediately, or keep warm on low heat until ready to use.

Notes

  • If the gravy is too thick, add more broth to reach your desired consistency.
  • For a richer flavor, use pan drippings from roasted meats instead of butter.
  • For a smooth gravy, make sure to whisk constantly as you add the liquid.
