Description

Tender, oven-baked donut muffins rolled in warm cinnamon sugar, just like Grandma made. Fluffy crumb, buttery finish, and an irresistible cozy aroma.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted for coating
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, for coating
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line with paper liners.
  2. Whisk the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, 1/2 cup melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently fold just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until the tops are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Stir together the coating sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Let muffins cool 3 to 5 minutes, then brush tops with the 1/4 cup melted butter and roll in the cinnamon sugar to coat.
  8. Serve warm, or cool completely on a rack and store airtight.

Notes

  • Note: Coat while warm so the cinnamon sugar adheres beautifully.
  • For extra spice, add a pinch of nutmeg to the batter.
  • Use a light-colored muffin pan for even browning.
  • An ice cream scoop helps portion batter evenly.
