Description

Crispy golden chicken pieces tossed in a glossy sweet and tangy orange sauce, completely gluten free and perfect for a flavorful weeknight dinner.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • ¾ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup gluten free soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 3 cups cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add a thin layer of neutral oil.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, honey, gluten free soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, and sesame oil.
  3. In another bowl, toss the chicken pieces with beaten eggs, then coat thoroughly in cornstarch.
  4. Place coated chicken pieces into the hot skillet in a single layer and cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Fry the chicken for 4 to 5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through, then remove and set aside.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce into the same pan and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes until thickened.
  7. Return the chicken to the pan and toss until fully coated in the sauce.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, then serve over warm white rice.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain crisp texture.
  • Simmer the sauce until it coats the back of a spoon for best consistency.
  • Adjust honey or rice vinegar to balance sweetness and acidity to your taste.
  • Serve immediately after tossing in sauce for maximum crispness.
