Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (plus more if needed)
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Garlic Butter Topping:
- 3 tbsp melted butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in garlic, parsley, and Parmesan (if using).
- Add buttermilk and gently mix until dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
- Turn out dough onto a floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut into rounds or squares.
- Place biscuits on the prepared sheet. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, combine melted butter, garlic, and parsley for the topping.
- Brush biscuits with garlic butter immediately after baking. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use self-rising flour and skip baking powder/soda for quicker prep.
- Substitute dried herbs if fresh aren’t available.
- To make ahead, freeze unbaked biscuits and bake directly from frozen, adding 2–3 minutes to baking time.
