Description
Frozen Mud Pie is a decadent, no-bake dessert made with a crunchy chocolate cookie crust, rich coffee or chocolate ice cream, and a luscious fudge topping, often finished with whipped cream and nuts. It’s a cold, creamy classic that’s perfect for summer entertaining.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs (e.g., Oreos or chocolate wafers)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1.5 quarts coffee or chocolate ice cream, softened
- 1 cup hot fudge sauce (plus more for drizzling)
- 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- 1/4 cup chopped toasted almonds or pecans (optional)
- Chocolate shavings or sprinkles for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix chocolate cookie crumbs with melted butter until well combined.
- Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish or springform pan. Freeze for 10–15 minutes to set.
- Spread softened ice cream evenly over the crust and smooth the top. Freeze for at least 1 hour or until firm.
- Warm the fudge sauce slightly until pourable but not hot. Spread over the frozen ice cream layer and return to freezer for 30 minutes.
- Top with whipped topping and sprinkle with chopped nuts and chocolate shavings if desired.
- Freeze the pie for at least 2 more hours or until fully set.
- Let sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with extra fudge sauce when serving.
Notes
- Use coffee ice cream for a traditional mud pie flavor or substitute chocolate, mocha, or cookies & cream.
- Line the pie dish with plastic wrap for easier removal if using a springform pan.
- This pie can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the freezer.
