Description

Frozen Mud Pie is a decadent, no-bake dessert made with a crunchy chocolate cookie crust, rich coffee or chocolate ice cream, and a luscious fudge topping, often finished with whipped cream and nuts. It’s a cold, creamy classic that’s perfect for summer entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups chocolate cookie crumbs (e.g., Oreos or chocolate wafers)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1.5 quarts coffee or chocolate ice cream, softened
  • 1 cup hot fudge sauce (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
  • 1/4 cup chopped toasted almonds or pecans (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix chocolate cookie crumbs with melted butter until well combined.
  2. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish or springform pan. Freeze for 10–15 minutes to set.
  3. Spread softened ice cream evenly over the crust and smooth the top. Freeze for at least 1 hour or until firm.
  4. Warm the fudge sauce slightly until pourable but not hot. Spread over the frozen ice cream layer and return to freezer for 30 minutes.
  5. Top with whipped topping and sprinkle with chopped nuts and chocolate shavings if desired.
  6. Freeze the pie for at least 2 more hours or until fully set.
  7. Let sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with extra fudge sauce when serving.

Notes

  • Use coffee ice cream for a traditional mud pie flavor or substitute chocolate, mocha, or cookies & cream.
  • Line the pie dish with plastic wrap for easier removal if using a springform pan.
  • This pie can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the freezer.
