Description

These easy homemade croutons are crispy, flavorful, and perfect for adding crunch to salads, soups, or as a snack. Made with day-old bread, olive oil, garlic, and a pinch of salt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ loaf rustic Italian bread, day-old or stale is best
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, toss bread cubes with olive oil, garlic powder, and a pinch of kosher salt until evenly coated.
  4. Spread the bread cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes, tossing halfway through, until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool completely before using or storing.

Notes

  • Day-old or stale bread works best for croutons to ensure maximum crispiness.
  • Adjust seasoning by adding herbs like thyme, rosemary, or Italian seasoning.
  • Store cooled croutons in an airtight container for up to a week.
