Description

A cozy, flavor-packed skillet stuffing made with cornbread, sausage, herbs, and aromatics. Perfect for holidays or a comforting side any time.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups cornbread cubes (preferably day-old)
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs and chicken broth. Add the cornbread cubes and let them soak gently.
  3. Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Melt the butter and sauté onion, celery, and garlic until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the sausage and cook until browned.
  4. Add the cooked mixture to the cornbread. Sprinkle in sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Fold everything together gently to avoid breaking the cornbread.
  5. Transfer the stuffing mix back into the skillet, spread evenly, and bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden and set.
  6. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

  • Use day-old or oven-dried cornbread for best texture.
  • Feel free to substitute sausage with mushrooms for a vegetarian version.
