Description

A rich, gooey Southern-style pie loaded with chocolate chips and chopped pecans or walnuts, all baked in a buttery crust—Derby Pie is a Kentucky classic perfect for holidays or entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp bourbon (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, flour, bourbon (if using), vanilla, and salt until well combined.
  3. Stir in chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
  4. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  6. Let cool completely before slicing. Serve plain or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • Bourbon is traditional but optional—replace with vanilla or milk if preferred.
  • For a crunchier top, don’t cover the pie while baking.
  • Chill slightly before slicing for cleaner cuts.
