Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: fresh fruit, nut butter, chopped nuts, or extra syrup
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together the egg, milk, maple syrup (or honey), vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Add the oats and place the saucepan over medium heat.
- Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, for 5–7 minutes or until the oats are soft and the mixture thickens to a creamy custard consistency.
- Once thickened, remove from heat and let sit for a minute to cool slightly and finish setting.
- Serve warm with your favorite toppings such as sliced bananas, berries, peanut butter, or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Notes
- Use quick oats for a faster cook time; adjust liquid slightly if needed.
- To make it dairy-free, use almond, oat, or coconut milk.
- For extra protein, stir in a spoonful of Greek yogurt after cooking.
