Description

These Crispy Smash Egg Roll Dumplings are a genius twist on two favorites—dumplings and egg rolls! Each wrapper is stuffed with a savory pork-and-veggie filling, pan-fried until golden, then smashed flat for maximum crispiness. They’re addictive little bites perfect for dipping and sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 round dumpling or potsticker wrappers (approximately)
  • 12 Tablespoons (15–30 ml) oil
  • Dipping sauce of choice (soy sauce, chili crisp, or sweet chili sauce work great)

For the Egg Roll Dumpling Filling

  • 1/2 pound (227 g) ground pork (or any ground meat)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) shredded carrot, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks green onion, minced fine
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) soy sauce or fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix ground pork, cabbage, carrot, green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Fold and seal the edges with a little water, pressing firmly to close.
  3. Heat 1–2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add dumplings in a single layer, seam side down.
  4. Cook for 2–3 minutes until bottoms are golden brown, then gently press down with a spatula to “smash” them slightly.
  5. Flip and cook for another 2–3 minutes until both sides are crispy and the filling is cooked through.
  6. Remove and drain excess oil on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • You can swap pork for ground chicken, turkey, or even tofu for a vegetarian option.
  • Make ahead by freezing the filled dumplings on a tray, then storing in a freezer bag—cook straight from frozen with a few extra minutes of cook time.
  • Try different dipping sauces like ponzu, sriracha mayo, or peanut sauce for variety.
