Golden, crispy onion rings with a light and airy batter, perfect for snacking or serving alongside your favorite main dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced into 1/4-inch rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup cold sparkling water
- 4 cups vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk in cold sparkling water to form a smooth batter.
- Line a wire rack over a baking sheet to prepare for draining the fried rings.
- Dip each onion ring into the dry flour mixture, then into the wet batter, letting excess drip off.
- Carefully place onion rings into hot oil in small batches. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the wire rack. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt while still hot.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Use cold sparkling water for a light and airy texture.
- Dry the onion slices thoroughly before dipping for the best crisp.
- Fry in small batches to maintain oil temperature and crispiness.
