- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ⅓ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until foamy (about 5 minutes). Add melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix to form a soft dough, then knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
- Once the dough has risen (about 1 hour), punch it down. Roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture (cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla) down the center. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar evenly across the dough. Roll up tightly like a jelly roll and pinch the seam to seal.
- Place the roll seam-side down in the prepared loaf pan. Let it rise another 30 minutes. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let it cool for at least 15 minutes. Optional: drizzle with glaze or dust with powdered sugar.
- Slice into thick, warm pieces and enjoy with coffee or a cold glass of milk.
