Description

Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until foamy (about 5 minutes). Add melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix to form a soft dough, then knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  3. Once the dough has risen (about 1 hour), punch it down. Roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  4. Spread the cream cheese mixture (cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla) down the center. Sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar evenly across the dough. Roll up tightly like a jelly roll and pinch the seam to seal.
  5. Place the roll seam-side down in the prepared loaf pan. Let it rise another 30 minutes. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes. Optional: drizzle with glaze or dust with powdered sugar.
  7. Slice into thick, warm pieces and enjoy with coffee or a cold glass of milk.
