Ingredients
Scale
- Meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ pound ground pork
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ¾ cup plain breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)
- 1 egg
- ¾ cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Cream Sauce:
- 3 tablespoons butter
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
- ¾ cup vegetable broth
- ¾ cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let soak for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, garlic, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Shape mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake meatballs for 15-20 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned.
- For the cream sauce, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
- Gradually whisk in vegetable broth and beef broth, stirring constantly until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Add heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add baked meatballs to the sauce and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to coat them in the creamy sauce.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or steamed vegetables.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sauté the onions and garlic before adding to the meat mixture.
- Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour if needed for a gluten-free version.
- Meatballs can be pan-fried instead of baked for a crispier exterior.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
