Description

Warm, pillowy cinnamon sugar soft pretzels with a golden crust and sweet coating — perfect for cozy snacking or party treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Stir in melted butter and salt. Gradually add flour until dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let dough rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  5. In a large pot, bring 8 cups water to a boil. Carefully stir in baking soda.
  6. Divide dough into 8 pieces, roll into ropes, and twist into pretzels. Place on prepared baking sheet.
  7. Dip each pretzel in the boiling water for 20–30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place back on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and coarse sugar in a bowl.
  10. Brush warm pretzels with melted butter and coat in cinnamon sugar mixture.

Notes

  • Use warm water around 110°F to activate the yeast properly.
  • Don’t skip the baking soda bath — it’s essential for pretzel texture.
  • To make ahead, refrigerate shaped dough overnight and bake the next day.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best results.
