Description

Tender marinated chicken simmered in a rich, creamy tomato sauce infused with warm spices, creating a comforting and flavor-packed dish that tastes just like your favorite restaurant version.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1 cup plain full fat yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon turmeric
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1.5 cups tomato puree
  • 0.75 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, ginger, garam masala, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, chili powder, 0.5 teaspoon salt, and black pepper. Add chicken pieces and coat thoroughly. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add vegetable oil.
  3. Add marinated chicken pieces, shaking off excess marinade, and cook until lightly browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add tomato puree and remaining 0.5 teaspoon salt. Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Return chicken to the skillet and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10 to 12 minutes until chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  6. Stir in heavy cream and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.

Notes

  • Marinate the chicken longer for deeper flavor, up to 4 hours if possible.
  • Keep the heat gentle after adding cream to prevent the sauce from separating.
  • Taste before serving and adjust salt or spice as needed.
