Description
Chicken Shawarma with Yogurt Sauce is a flavorful Middle Eastern dish featuring marinated chicken cooked to perfection, served with a creamy yogurt sauce, and typically accompanied by warm pita or rice.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp ground coriander
- 1 tbsp ground paprika
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp tahini
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (for yogurt sauce)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to create the marinade.
- Coat the chicken thighs in the marinade and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best flavor.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken thighs for 6-7 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown on the outside.
- While the chicken is cooking, prepare the yogurt sauce by mixing plain yogurt, tahini, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir well to combine.
- Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly.
- Serve the chicken on a plate with a drizzle of yogurt sauce, garnished with fresh parsley. Optionally, serve with pita bread or over rice.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the marinade.
- For a more smoky flavor, grill the chicken over charcoal.
- Serve with pickles or a fresh salad for added crunch.
