Description

These cheesy French pinwheels are crispy, golden puff pastry spirals filled with melty cheese and herbs — a simple and elegant appetizer or snack that’s perfect for any gathering.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or Herbes de Provence
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Flour, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly flour a surface and roll out the puff pastry into a 10×12 inch rectangle.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the surface of the pastry.
  4. Sprinkle Gruyère and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Add thyme or herbs.
  5. Starting from one long side, tightly roll the pastry into a log. Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up for easier slicing.
  6. Slice the log into 1/2-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.
  7. Brush tops with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • You can swap the cheese for shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or blue cheese.
  • Add thinly sliced ham or prosciutto for a heartier version.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature with a dipping sauce or mustard.
