Description
These cheesy French pinwheels are crispy, golden puff pastry spirals filled with melty cheese and herbs — a simple and elegant appetizer or snack that’s perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or Herbes de Provence
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Flour, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly flour a surface and roll out the puff pastry into a 10×12 inch rectangle.
- Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the surface of the pastry.
- Sprinkle Gruyère and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Add thyme or herbs.
- Starting from one long side, tightly roll the pastry into a log. Chill in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up for easier slicing.
- Slice the log into 1/2-inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet, cut side up.
- Brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can swap the cheese for shredded cheddar, mozzarella, or blue cheese.
- Add thinly sliced ham or prosciutto for a heartier version.
- Serve warm or at room temperature with a dipping sauce or mustard.
