Description

Carne Asada Fries are the ultimate comfort food — crispy golden fries topped with tender, flavorful marinated steak, melted cheese, and all your favorite toppings like guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Perfect for game day, parties, or when you’re craving a hearty, indulgent meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Carne Asada:

  • 2 lbs flank steak or skirt steak
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper, or to taste

For the Fries:

  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper, or to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup guacamole, homemade or store-bought
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup pico de gallo, homemade or store-bought
  • 1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced
  • Hot sauce, to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, orange juice, garlic, jalapeño, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Add steak, turning to coat well. Cover and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).
  2. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steak for 4–6 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until cooked to desired doneness. Remove from heat, let rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Toss potato fries with olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Spread in an even layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  4. Once fries are cooked, transfer to an oven-safe dish. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese. Return to the oven for 5 minutes, until cheese is melted.
  5. Top fries with sliced carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, and green onions. Drizzle with hot sauce if desired.
  6. Serve immediately while warm and cheesy.

Notes

  • For crispier fries, soak potato slices in cold water for 30 minutes before baking.
  • You can also use frozen fries to save time.
  • Carne asada can be cooked on a cast-iron skillet if you don’t have a grill.
