- 1 cup buttermilk

- Caramel Frosting: 1 cup unsalted butter, 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup caramel sauce, 2 tbsp heavy cream, 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
- Melt the butterscotch chips and stir into the wet mixture.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat butter until fluffy, add powdered sugar, caramel sauce, heavy cream, and vanilla until smooth and spreadable.
- Frost the cooled cakes and drizzle with extra caramel sauce if desired.
