Flaky, golden blackberry hand pies filled with juicy berries and a hint of lemon. These handheld treats are perfect for snacking, sharing, or bringing to any gathering.

- 2 cups fresh blackberries
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 pre-made 9-inch pie dough rounds
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Coarse sugar, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine blackberries, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Stir until berries are well coated.
- Roll out the pie dough on a floured surface and cut into 4- to 5-inch circles.
- Add a spoonful of the berry mixture to each dough circle, fold into a half-moon, and crimp edges with a fork.
- Place the hand pies on the baking sheet. Mix the egg and milk, then brush over the tops of each pie.
- Sprinkle with coarse sugar and cut a small slit on top of each pie for steam to escape.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Chill dough before assembling to make it easier to handle.
- Do not overfill to avoid bursting pies.
- Let pies cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
