Description

Bison Meatballs are a lean and flavorful alternative to traditional beef meatballs. These tender meatballs are made with bison meat, seasoned with herbs and spices, and perfect for serving with pasta, on a sub roll, or as an appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground bison
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • Marinara sauce (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground bison, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, parsley, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Form the mixture into 1 to 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs in batches, cooking for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  5. Once browned, transfer the meatballs to the baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until fully cooked and internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Serve with marinara sauce if desired, or enjoy them as they are.

Notes

  • If you prefer, you can make these meatballs ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or freeze for later use.
  • These meatballs can be served with pasta, on a sub roll with cheese for a meatball sandwich, or with a dipping sauce for a party appetizer.
  • For added flavor, you can mix in some finely chopped onions or bell peppers into the meatball mixture.
