Description

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch any drips.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until apples are evenly coated.
  3. Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, gently pressing it into place and crimping the edges.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared crust and spread evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, prepare the crumble topping by mixing flour, oats, brown sugar, and cold butter until crumbly. Sprinkle this mixture generously over the apples.
  6. Bake the pie for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Remove from oven and let it cool for at least 2 hours to allow the filling to set.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
