Description
This Amish Applesauce Cake is a moist, old-fashioned dessert made with pantry staples and plenty of cozy spices. Perfect for fall or any time you crave a comforting, simple cake, it’s lightly sweetened with applesauce and filled with nuts and raisins for added texture and flavor.

- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups unsweetened applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or a Bundt pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in nuts and raisins, if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes (Bundt pan may take longer), or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before slicing. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with glaze.
